Beavers Drop Overtime Heartbreaker In CUNYAC Tournament

NEW YORK -- After defeating Baruch last week to clinch the final spot in the CUNY Athletic Conference Tournament, the City College of New York men's soccer team faced the Bearcats again on Wednesday in the first round.  The contest was tied after 90 minutes, but Baruch's Shaiem Allah Morad scored five minutes into overtime to give the third-seeded Bearcats (7-9-1) a 2-1 victory over the sixth-seeded Beavers (3-12-0) at Randall's Island Field 70.

Baruch opened the scoring in the 12th minute.  Luis Munoz's pass slipped through the CCNY defense, and Cormac Foley shot past Kacper Lesniak (Nowy Sacz, Poland) to give the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage.  In the 34th minute, the Beavers got the equalizer when Bubacarr Jaiteh's (Bakau, Gambia) free kick from 25 yards out sailed into the bottom left corner of the net.

Both teams had several solid scoring chances in the second half.  Neither was able to convert, though, and the contest went into overtime knotted at 1-1.  CCNY had an opportunity early in the extra session, but Edouard Augustin's (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) attempt sailed wide.  The Bearcats then won it on Allah Morad's tally in the 95th minute.  With the victory, Baruch advanced to face second-seeded Hunter in the semifinals.

Jaiteh, who also scored in last week's matchup with Baruch, tallied his third goal of the season.  Lesniak, meanwhile, finished with six saves in the losing effort.

Foley was credited with his ninth of the year, while Allah Morad's game-winner was his eighth tally this season.  Kellen Sela registered a pair of saves for the Bearcats.

CCNY has one game remaining on its schedule.  The Beavers conclude the 2019 campaign against Yeshiva (3-10-1) on Sunday, Nov. 10.  The game is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. at Votee Park in Teaneck, NJ.
