CCNY's Winning Streak Snapped By CSI

PURCHASE, NY -- The City College of New York women's soccer team (5-6-0) saw its two-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss to the College of Staten Island (4-5-0) at the Purchase College Turf Field.  Because Staten Island is in the process of reclassifying to Division II, the contest was considered a non-conference game and doesn't count towards the CUNY Athletic Conference standings.

CCNY had the game's first good scoring chance, but Ingrid Rosario's (Ozone, NY) fifth-minute attempt was stopped by CSI goalkeeper Lyubimora Stefanova.  The Dolphins then got on the board in the 23rd minute, when Mirsade Pelinkovic's free kick from just outside the box hit the post and bounced in.  Nermina Bracic made it 2-0 Staten Island in the 40th minute, and Pelinkovic added another goal in the 52nd minute to accont for the final margin.

In the 80th minute, the Beavers nearly got on the board when Renee Ramlochan's (Queens, NY) shot was blocked and Jackeline Guillen's (Jamaica, NY) rebound was saved.  CCNY was then awarded three successive corner kicks, but was unable to convert one into a goal, snapping its streak of five consecutive games with a tally.

Staten Island outshot CCNY 22-6, and Catherine Langkamp (Bronx, NY) made 11 saves for the Beavers.  Stefanonva, meanwhile, recorded three saves in the shutout victory.

On Tuesday, the Beavers will return to the Purchase College Turf Field--this time as the visitors.  CCNY's 7 p.m. matchup with Purchase (5-3-0) will be the team's final non-conference contest of the season.
