CCNY Sets Season High For Points In Loss at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, CT -- The City College of New York women's basketball team had its highest offensive output of the season on Tuesday night.  However, the Beavers (0-6) came up on the short end of a 95-58 decision against host Wesleyan (6-0) at Silloway Gymnasium.

Wesleyan scored the first five points of the game before CCNY pulled within 5-3 on a Reilly Boehm (Orlando, FL) trey.  An old-fashioned three-point play by Harlean Williams (Staten Island, NY) brought the Beavers with 7-6 at the 7:33 mark, but the Cardinals responded with an 11-0 run to push their advantage to 18-6.  Wesleyan led 31-16 after the first quarter.

A Nahomi Zambrano (Bronx, NY) three-pointer trimmed the Beavers' deficit to 11 points, 33-22, with 7:23 remaining before halftime.  Wesleyan countered with a 12-1 spurt, though, to bring the margin back to 22 points, and it was a 21-point game, 49-28, at the break.  The Cardinals extended their lead to 73-42 at the end of three quarters before closing out a 95-58 victory.

Boehm finished with 29 points to pace the Beavers.  She added six rebounds and two assists.  Tianna Fumasoli (Elizaville, NY) tallied 16 points and five boards, while Williams pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.  CCNY shot 28.8 percent (21-of-73) from the field, 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from three-point range, and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) at the charity stripe.

Maggie Lee led five Cardinals in double-figures with 17 points.  She also grabbed nine rebounds.  Maddie Clark had 14 points and eight assists, while Caleigh Ryan registered 14 points, five boards and three blocks.  Abby Gray secured 10 rebounds, and Ava Tompkins distributed 10 assists to go along with six boards and two blocks.  Wesleyan shot 42 percent (37-of-88) from the floor, 33.3 percent (11-of-33) from downtown, and 76.9 percent (10-of-13) at the free throw line.

After playing six games in 14 days to begin the season, the Beavers will now have a week off before returning to action.  CCNY visits Staten Island (0-5) next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
