NEW YORK – On Saturday night,
Reilly Boehm (Orlando, FL) had one of the best offensive performances in City College of New York women's basketball history. She went off for 41 points, the second-highest single-game output in Division III this season, against SUNY Potsdam at Nat Holman Gymnasium. Boehm just missed her first career double-double in the game, grabbing nine rebounds in the Beavers' (0-10) 90-56 loss to the Bears (4-4).
She finished 12-for-29 from the field and drained seven three-pointers, including three in the fourth quarter. Boehm also went 10-for-11 at the free throw line. She entered the contest ranked third nationally in scoring with 24.7 points per game, but raised her average to 26.3 points per outing and moved into the national lead with Saturday's effort.
Boehm had six points in the first quarter, as SUNY Potsdam jumped out to a 23-8 lead. The Bears then extended their advantage to 49-20 at intermission, with Devyn Elliott hitting a 40-footer as time expired in the half.
In the third quarter, it was Boehm's turn to sink a buzzer beater. She banked one in from half court to cap a 13-point period and move CCNY within 70-39. Boehm then scored 15 of the Beavers' 17 points in the fourth quarter, giving her 28 second-half points. She accounted for the final 10 CCNY points in SUNY Potsdam's 90-56 victory.
Melanie Torres (Queens, NY) recorded 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks, while
Tianna Fumasoli (Elizaville, NY) pulled down five boards.
Nahomi Zambrano (Bronx, NY) collected three steals, and
Shanyah Lander (Mount Vernon, NY) handed out three assists. As a team, the Beavers shot 28.4 percent (19-of-67) from the field, 29.6 percent (8-of-27) from three-point land, and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) at the free throw line.
For the Bears, Elliott led the way with 29 points, 20 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and three steals. Jakia Howard also had a double-double with 14 points and 17 boards, while Dyamon Hunter finished with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. Alexis Davis added nine rebounds for SUNY Potsdam, which went 37-for-88 (42 percent) from the floor. The Bears shot 22.7 percent (5-of-22) from downtown and 50 percent (11-of-22) at the charity stripe.
CCNY will now have three weeks off before returning to action. The Beavers (0-1 CUNYAC) begin 2020 with a 12 p.m. matchup against Baruch (5-2, 0-1 CUNYAC) at Nat Holman Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 4.
