NEW YORK – After taking a three-week holiday break, the City College of New York women's basketball team returned to action for the first time since Dec. 14 on Saturday afternoon. The Beavers began a busy string of three games in five days by welcoming CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rival Baruch to Nat Holman Gymnasium. CCNY was unable to come away with the victory, however, as the Bearcats (7-2, 1-1 CUNYAC) topped the Beavers (0-11, 0-2 CUNYAC) by an 80-57 count.
It was CCNY's annual "Take a Kid to the Game Day," and nearly 100 children from local schools and youth organizations were in attendance. There were a number of kid-friendly contests, including a dance-off, and both the CCNY men's and women's teams signed autographs.
Melanie Torres (Queens, NY) had her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 16 rebounds. She also registered three blocks.
Reilly Boehm (Orlando, FL), the NCAA's leading scorer, finished with 25 points and four assists.

Nahomi Zambrano (Bronx, NY) pulled down six rebounds for the Beavers, who shot 30.4 percent (21-of-69) from the field. CCNY went 5-for-23 (21.7 percent) from three-point land and 10-for-15 (66.7 percent) at the charity stripe.
Baruch led 10-2 midway through the first quarter and extended that margin to 20-8 at the end of the period. The Bearcats' cushion was 16 points, 43-27, at halftime. After opening up a 66-41 advantage through three quarters, Baruch took its largest lead of the game, 76-47, with 6:08 remaining. Fumasoli sank a three-pointer with 17 seconds left to cap the scoring in the Beavers' 80-57 defeat.
Five Bearcats scored in double-figures, led by Nia Dawson's 18 points. Dawson was also one of four Baruch players with a team-high six rebounds. Frances Snyder had 16 points and five assists, while Sameera Ahmed finished with 13 points and four assists. Melinda Spahiu notched 11 points and six boards, and Daniela Zirpolo tallied 10 points to go along with six rebounds. Baruch outrebounded CCNY 52-46 and shot 43 percent (34-of-79) from the floor. The Bearcats were 8-for-18 (44.4 percent) from downtown and 4-for-9 (44.4 percent) at the free throw line.
Up next for CCNY is a matchup with Medgar Evers (1-7, 0-2 CUNYAC) at Nat Holman Gymnasium. The contest between the Beavers and Cougars is scheduled for 5 p.m., followed by the CCNY-Medgar Evers men's game at 7 p.m.
