Boehm, Fumasoli Lead CCNY Against NJCU

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Reilly Boehm (Orlando, FL) and Tianna Fumasoli (Elizaville, NY) both scored 20 points for the second consecutive game on Monday night.  However, it was not enough for the City College of New York women's basketball team, as the Beavers (0-9) fell to New Jersey City University (2-5) by a 91-47 count at the Moore Athletics & Fitness Center.

Boehm finished with 25 points and four rebounds, while Fumasoli had 20 points and four boards.  Nathalie Membreno (Baldwin, NY) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, and Melanie Torres (Queens, NY) collected six boards to go along with three blocks.  Shanyah Lander (Mount Vernon, NY), meanwhile, was credited with four steals.  As a team, the Beavers shot 34 percent (17-of-50) from the field, 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from downtown, and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) at the charity stripe.

With NJCU in front 14-9, Boehm hit a jumper and a three-pointer to tie it at 14-14 with 1:11 left in the first quarter.  It was a 16-16 game after one period, and CCNY took a 19-18 lead on a Fumasoli trey at the 8:14 mark of the second quarter.  However, the Gothic Knights responded with a 16-2 run to open up a 34-21 advantage.

NJCU led 42-24 at intermission, then extended the margin to 71-31 after three quarters.  After the Gothic Knights pushed their cushion to 82-33, a Fumasoli jumper started a 13-3 run that brought the Beavers within 85-46.  NJCU would outscore CCNY 6-1 the rest of the way, however, to close out a 91-47 win.

Alexandria Sams led the Gothic Knights with 24 points.  She also recorded three assists and six steals.  Jasmine Reese had a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Dayjah Anderson contributed 16 points, eight boards and three assists.  Mya Neal added nine points and seven rebounds off the bench for NJCU, which shot 40 percent (36-of-90) from the floor.  The Gothic Knights were 8-for-21 (38.1 percent) from long range and 11-for-17 (64.7 percent) at the free throw line.

The Beavers have one game remaining before a three-week holiday break.  CCNY welcomes SUNY Potsdam (3-4) to Nat Holman Gymnasium for a 6:30 p.m. contest on Saturday.
