Doylestown, PA – The City College of New York baseball program dropped a single non-conference game against Delaware Valley University on Tuesday afternoon, 13-4.
CCNY opened the game with two runs in the first inning. With three runners on, freshman Alex Vasquez brought in junior
Cooper York for the first score on a hit-by-pitch RBI. In the next at-bat,
Josh Moreno drew an RBI walk walked, plating junior
Stephen Peters, to go ahead 2-0.
In the third frame, sophomore
Michael Espinal hit an RBI double down the right-field line to score rookie
Ethan Angress.
Delaware Valley answered back scoring a pair of runs in the second and third innings to take a one-run lead over the Beavers, 4-3.
CCNY added a tying run in the top of the seventh after Vasquez scored an unearned run on Angress's RBI groundout.
With the game tied, Delaware Valley scored a total of six runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 10-4 lead.
CCNY got one more run in the top of the eighth inning with Velazquez singling home Peters.
Delaware Valley added three insurance runs in the eight, capitalizing on two hits.
Espinal, York, and Peters had a pair of hits each while Velazquez had two RBI.
CCNY used four pitchers in the game. Angress got the start, tossing three innings and struck out two batters. Freshman
Zach Boccio worked one inning, recording two strikeouts in relief work,
CCNY opens CUNY Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game series with the College of Staten Island. The series begins on Friday with a nine-inning game at Staten Island before Beavers host the Dolphins in a doubleheader on Saturday at Baseball Haven in Yaphank, NY.
