BRONX, NY -- On Wednesday night, the City College of New York women's soccer team traveled to Lehman for its first CUNY Athletic Conference game of the season. Trailing 2-0, the Beavers got a late goal from
Ingrid Rosario (Ozone, NY), but CCNY (3-5-0, 0-1-0 CUNYAC) ultimately ran out of time in a 2-1 loss to the host Lightning (2-6-0, 2-0-0 CUNYAC) at South Field.
Lehman took the lead in the 28th minute, when Melanie Huerta snuck one past
Catherine Langkamp (Bronx, NY). The Lightning then extended their advantage to 2-0 on Micaela Canapa's tally in the 75th minute.
After several strong scoring opportunities, CCNY finally broke through in the 85th minute. The Beavers earned a free kick just outside the box, and Rosario fired a blast by Lehman goalkeeper Rebecca Gritz to cut the deficit in half. CCNY continued to apply the pressure, but was unable to find the equalizer and fell by a 2-1 score.
Rosario's goal was her third in the last two games and fourth of the season. Langkamp, meanwhile, made three saves in net.
In addition to scoring the game-winner, Canapa assisted on the first Lehman goal. Gritz was credited with six saves, including four in the second half.
The Beavers continue their three-game CUNYAC road swing on Saturday, when they visit Brooklyn (2-5-1, 1-1-0 CUNYAC) at 12 p.m.
