BROOKLYN, NY -- On Saturday afternoon, the City College of New York women's soccer team scored three times in the first half and never looked back. Behind tallies by
Gabrielle Duchaussee (Saratoga Springs, NY),
Ingrid Rosario (Ozone, NY) and
Maria Tomais (Cortlandt Manor, NY), the Beavers (4-5-1, 1-1-0 CUNYAC) earned their first CUNY Athletic Conference victory of the season, 3-0 over host Brooklyn (2-6-1, 1-2-0 CUNYAC) at Brooklyn College Field.
Duchaussee got the scoring started in the 11th minute, when she took a feed from
Dina Sayd (Brooklyn, NY) and arched it over the defense for her 12th goal of the season. After a Brooklyn foul in the box resulted in a penalty kick, Rosario put it home to double the Beavers' lead. Tomais made it 3-0 less than three minutes later off an assist from Duchaussee.
CCNY controlled play throughout, outshooting Brooklyn 23-4 and holding a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Rosario now has four goals in the Beavers' last three games, while Tomais' tally was her third of the year.
Catherine Langkamp (Bronx, NY) helped preserve the shutout with three saves. Carmen Proffitt, meanwhile, made 11 saves for the Bulldogs.
The Beavers, who have won two of their last three games, will look to make it three out of four on Wednesday night. CCNY concludes a three-game CUNYAC road trip with a 7:30 p.m. matchup against Medgar Evers (0-6-0, 0-1-0 CUNYAC) at the Aviator Sports Complex.
