John Jay Slips Past CCNY, 2-1

RANDALL'S ISLAND, NY -- On Saturday afternoon, the City College of New York men's soccer team took on CUNY Athletic Conference rival John Jay at Randall's Island.  The Beavers (0-7-0, 0-2-0 CUNYAC) scored the first goal of the game, but the Bloodhounds (3-5-0, 1-1-0 CUNYAC) responded with a pair of tallies to earn a 2-1 win.

After a scoreless first half, Bubacarr Jaiteh (Bakau, Gambia) put the Beavers on the board in the 48th minute.  He found a loose ball inside the box and sent it past John Jay goalkeeper Steven Towler for a 1-0 CCNY advantage.

John Jay tied it on Mark Shnadshtyen's long strike in the 52nd minute, then went in front seven minutes later on a tally by Andrew DeCanio.  CCNY nearly found an equalizer, but Towler stopped Amadou Barry's (Conakry, Guinea) attempt in the 67th minute and another by Nicholas Karkut (Middle Village, NY) in the 80th minute.  Those would prove to be the Beavers' best scoring attempts, as the Bloodhounds held on for a 2-1 victory.

Jaiteh's goal was his first of the season.  Barry was credited with an assist, his first of the year, on the scoring play.  Kacper Lesniak (Nowy Sacz, Poland), meanwhile, recorded seven saves in the loss.  Towler stopped six CCNY shots.

The Beavers will play their final non-conference game of the season on Monday.  CCNY travels to Mahwah, NJ, for a 4 p.m. matchup with No. 14 Ramapo (5-0-3).
