Piszczatowski Notches Double-Double In Loss to Lehman

NEW YORK – Daniel Piszczatowski (Middle Village, NY) had his first career double-double for the City College of New York men's basketball team on Wednesday night.  He matched his career-high with 14 points and set a career-high with 10 rebounds in the Beavers' matchup against CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rival Lehman at Nat Holman Gymnasium.  Piszczatowski's performance wasn't enough to lead CCNY (0-16, 0-7 CUNYAC) to a victory, however, as the Lightning (10-7, 5-2 CUNYAC) came away with a  74-51 win.

After Lehman jumped out to a 14-8 lead, the Beavers responded with seven straight points to pull in front, 15-14.  The Lighting scored the next five points, though, to bring the margin back to four, 19-15, midway through the opening half.  CCNY pulled within two at 27-25, but Lehman rattled off the next five points to regain a seven-point cushion, 32-25.  Isaiah Denard (Staten Island, NY) hit a pair of free throws late in the half to trim the Beavers' deficit to five, 32-27, at intermission.

However, the Lightning opened the second half on a 10-2 run that pushed the gap to 13 points, 42-29.  A Piszcztowski jumper and a Denard trey brought CCNY back within 42-34 before seven straight Lehman points made it 49-34 in favor of the Lightning with 12:43 left.  Lehman gradually pulled away from there, shooting 58.1 percent (18-of-31) from the field in the second half en route to a 74-51 triumph.

Piszczatowski had three steals to go along with his 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Romello Rashad (New York, NY) finished with nine points, six assists and three steals, while Denard tallied eight points.  Yassine Sakhi (New York, NY) got in early foul trouble and was limited to seven points and six boards.  The Beavers shot 31.7 percent (19-of-60) from the floor, 23.1 percent (6-of-26) from three-point land, and 63.6 percent (7-of-11) at the free throw line.

Isaiah Geathers recorded a double-double for the Lightning with 21 points (including 19 in the second half) and 11 rebounds. Gian Batista had 16 points, five boards and four assists, while Tommy Batista finished with 15 points, four assists and three steals.  Alex Hanson added seven points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks.  As a team, Lehman shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field, 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from downtown, and 52.9 percent (9-of-17) at the charity stripe.

Up next for the Beavers is a 7:30 p.m. matchup at Baruch (10-6, 5-2 CUNYAC) on Friday.  The Bearcats earned an 80-73 victory over CCNY when the sides met on Jan. 4.
