NEWTON, MA – Reilly Boehm (Orlando, FL) erupted for 49 points, the most in a game by a Division III player this season, for the City College of New York women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon. The NCAA's leading scorer, she drained 12 three-pointers—also an NCAA single-game high—in the contest. CCNY (2-16), however, fell to host Lasell (9-8) by an 89-67 count at the Lasell Athletic Center.
This season's NCAA high had been the 48 points scored by Bard's Christina Kiser on Nov. 15. Boehm's effort was also the third-highest-scoring-game across all three divisions this season, trailing only Division II players Shareka McNeill of Virginia Union (55) and Megan Skaggs of Central Missouri (50). Her 12 three-pointers, meanwhile, were two more than this year's previous Division III-best, which was done four times by four different players.
She went 14-for-32 from the field, 12-for-19 from downtown, and 9-for-13 at the line in the contest. Boehm also had four rebounds, two assists and three steals. It was her second 40-point effort of the season, having notched 41 points against Potsdam on Dec. 14. Boehm also saw her NCAA-leading scoring average go up more than a full point from 25.9 to 27.2 points per game.
Tianna Fumasoli (Elizaville, NY) tallied six points and five assists, while
Shanyah Lander (Mount Vernon, NY) finished with six points and five boards.
Melanie Torres (Queens, NY) and
Mary Mfum (Brooklyn, NY) added seven rebounds apiece. Torres also posted three blocks for the Beavers, who shot 34.3 percent (23-of-67) from the floor overall.
Boehm got started early, sinking a trey just 33 seconds into the game. CCNY had a 7-0 lead after three minutes, but Lasell countered with seven points of their own to tie the score. After the Beavers went back in front, 10-8, on a Boehm three at the 4:07 mark, the Lasers ended the first quarter on a 15-5 run to take a 23-15 advantage. Lasell extended that cushion to 47-26 at the half.
The Beavers opened the third quarter on a 14-4 spurt (with 12 of those 14 points coming from Boehm) to get back within 11 at 51-40. Lasell scored the next six points before Boehm hit a trey to make it 57-43. The Lasers led 59-43 after three quarters, then extended the margin to a game-high 28 points, 78-50, midway through the final period. CCNY responded with a 12-2 spurt to trim its deficit to 18 points at 80-62, but would get no closer, as Lasell earned an 89-67 win.
For the Lasers, Precious Montgomery had a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. She also recorded four assists. Amanda Ortiz tallied 19 points, three assists and four steals, while Meg Carroll posted 17 points and eight boards. Lasell shot a combined 47.2 percent (34-of-72) from the field, 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from long range, and 86.7 percent (13-of-15) at the charity stripe.
On Tuesday, the Beavers conclude a busy stretch of four games in eight days when they welcome Staten Island (10-8) to Nat Holman Gymnasium for a 5 p.m. matchup. The Dolphins earned a 96-51 victory over the Beavers when the sides met on Dec. 3.
