Beavers Edged By Staten Island

NEW YORK – Reilly Boehm (Orlando, FL) continued her offensive barrage on Tuesday.  She scored 30 points for the third straight game and seventh time this season in the City College of New York women's basketball team's matchup with Staten Island at Nat Holman Gymnasium.  However, the Dolphins (11-8) proved too much for the Beavers (2-17), as Staten Island came away with an 88-46 win.

Boehm, the nation's leading scorer, drained six treys in the game, giving her 18 in CCNY's last two outings.  Tianna Fumasoli (Elizaville, NY) finished with 12 points, while Melanie Torres (Queens, NY) corralled 10 rebounds.  Nathalie Membreno (Baldwin, NY) added a career-high five boards for the Beavers, who shot a combined 28.1 percent (16-of-57) from the floor.  CCNY was 7-for-15 (46.7 percent) from long range and 7-for-11 (63.6 percent) at the free throw line.

The teams traded buckets early on, and it was a two-point game when a Torres jumper made the score 7-5 Dolphins with 7:21 left in the first quarter.  However, a three-pointer by Kayla Schmitter at the 6:29 mark sparked a 16-3 run that extended Staten Island's advantage to 23-8.  Boehm sank a trey to conclude the period, and the Dolphins held a 23-11 edge after one quarter.

Staten Island led 48-30 at the break, then increased its cushion to 70-39 entering the fourth quarter.  The final margin was 42 points, as the Dolphins won by an 88-46 count to sweep the season series with the Beavers.  (Because of Staten Island's transition to Division II, neither game counted in the CUNY Athletic Conference standings.)

Diana Todaro had 21 points, 23 rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Dolphins.  Diedre Foster also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.  Megan McEwan, meanwhile, contributed 19 points and five assists.  As a team, Staten Island shot 39.5 percent (32-of-81) from the field, 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from three-point land, and 73.7 percent (14-of-19) at the charity stripe.

After playing four games in eight days, the Beavers will now have more than a week off before returning to action.  CCNY (2-6 CUNYAC) resumes its CUNYAC schedule next Tuesday with a 6 p.m. visit to John Jay (9-10, 6-2 CUNYAC).  The Bloodhounds earned a 111-68 victory over the Beavers at Nat Holman Gymnasium on Dec. 6.
