CCNY Struggles In Loss at John Jay

NEW YORK – Playing without the nation's leading scorer, Reilly Boehm (Orlando, FL), the City College of New York women's basketball team struggled offensively on Tuesday night.  The Beavers (2-18, 2-7 CUNY Athletic Conference) were held to just 25.9 percent (14-of-54) shooting in a 112-41 loss to John Jay (11-10, 8-2 CUNYAC) at the Doghouse.

The Bloodhounds led 10-2 less than three minutes in and held a 26-6 advantage after one quarter.  After increasing its cushion to 53-18 at the half, John Jay outscored CCNY 34-5 in the third quarter to extend the gap to 87-23.  The margin reached a game-high 80 points at 107-27 midway through the fourth quarter before the Beavers ended the contest on a 14-5 run to cut their final deficit to 112-41.

Tianna Fumasoli (Elizaville, NY) led the Beavers with 16 points and seven rebounds.  She also handed out three assists.  Shanyah Lander (Mount Vernon, NY) added a career-high nine points, while Melanie Torres (Queens, NY) contributed six points and seven boards.  Nahomi Zambrano (Bronx, NY) finished with six points and six rebounds, and Nathalie Membreno (Baldwin, NY) pulled down a career-best six boards.  As a team, CCNY shot 20 percent (3-of-15) from long range and 47.6 percent (10-of-21) at the charity stripe.

Nyasha Howard had a triple-double for the Bloodhounds with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists.  Jada Rencher tallied 34 points and 13 boards, while Katie Healy also posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.  All'aha Albright finished with 26 points, and Samantha Martir contributed 13 points off the bench.  In addition, Jessica Gorman grabbed 11 rebounds for John Jay, which shot a combined 49.5 percent (46-of-93) from the floor.  The Bloodhounds were 8-for-30 (26.7 percent) from three-point land and 12-for-22 (54.5 percent) at the free throw line.

CCNY continues its three-game CUNYAC road swing with a 5 p.m. visit to first-place Brooklyn (15-5, 10-0 CUNYAC) on Friday.  The Bulldogs earned a 90-43 victory over the Beavers when the teams met at Nat Holman Gymnasium on Jan. 17.
