RIVERDALE, NY – The City College of New York men's volleyball team picked up its sixth consecutive victory to start the season on Tuesday night.  The Beavers improved to 6-0 for the second time in three years with a 25-13, 25-19, 25-17 triumph over Mount St. Vincent (0-6) at the Sharp Center.
CCNY jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the first set, then used an 8-0 run to open up a 14-4 advantage.  Mount St. Vincent countered with four straight points to pull within 14-8 before a 
Carlos Maldonado Madrid (Honduras) kill started an 8-3 rally that increased the margin to 22-11.  Another Maldonado Madrid kill brought the Beavers to set point, and 
Andrew Chan (Flushing, NY) put one away to finish out the 25-13 win.
It was more of the same in the second set, as a Chan service ace gave the Beavers a 13-6 lead.  The Dolphins got back within three at 14-11, but CCNY responded with a 5-0 spurt to bring its advantage back to eight points, 19-11.  After Mount St. Vincent again trimmed its deficit to three points at 22-19, Maldonado Madrid slammed a kill and 
Abdullah Khalid (Hicksville, NY) followed with two more to close out the frame, 25-19.  As a team, the Beavers hit .375 (13 kills, four errors, 24 attempts) in the set.
In the third set, Mount St. Vincent jumped ahead 4-3 before CCNY rattled off four straight points to take a 7-4 lead.  After the Dolphins went back in front, 9-8, the Beavers went on an 11-2 run to go up 19-11.  Mount St. Vincent pulled back within four at 19-15, but an 
Elijah Parks (Long Beach, NY) kill started a match-ending 6-2 spurt for CCNY.  The Beavers closed out the sweep by taking the third set, 25-17.
Maldonado Madrid
 paced CCNY with nine kills, and he also recorded four digs.  
Stormer Horton (Waimea, HI) smashed seven kills on .357 hitting, while Khalid
 hit .625 in the match, ripping six kills with just one error in eight attempts.  Chan
 finished with 22 assists, four kills and a team-best four digs for the Beavers, who hit .273 (35-14-77) as a unit.
For the Dolphins, Felix Paulino led the way with five kills and five digs.  He added three aces.  Padelis Astrinidis finished with eight assists and four digs, while Jeremy Gonzalez returned four digs for Mount St. Vincent.
On Saturday, the Beavers will travel to Ramapo College for a tri-match.  CCNY faces St. Joseph's LI (5-3) at 1 p.m. before taking on the host Roadrunners (3-4) at 3 p.m.
