CCNY Remains Unbeaten in Conference Play with Win Over Brooklyn

New York, NY - The City College of New York women's soccer team defeated Brooklyn College Wednesday night, 5-2, to remain unbeaten in conference play on Wednesday night. With the win, the Beavers improved to 5-5 overall and controlled first place of the CUNY Athletic Conference.

The Beavers got things going earlier to start the contest. Freshman MacKenzie Moreno netted the first goal in the seventh minute to give CCNY a 1-0 lead. 

The Bulldogs answered back to tie the match in the 23rd minute when Priscilla Vixama chipped in a shot.

The Beavers responded quickly; as a sophomore, Cassidy Canberg scored the Beaver's second goal of the evening off an assist from Moreno to regain the lead, 2-1. In the 36tm minute, the duo of Canberg on Moreno repeated their scoring sequence to extend CCNY's lead to 3-1. 

In the second half, freshman Nicole Magretta dished an assist to set up classmate Akilah Smith for her first collegiate goal, extending the Beavers lead to 4-1. 

Freshman Laura Villatoro scored Beaver's fifth goal of the contest, netting her fifth goal of the season on a converted penalty kick in the 80th minute.

Freshman Rosario Baltazar made her seventh start in goal for CCNY, making two saves.

The Beaver's were aggressive on the offensive end all night, outshooting Brooklyn 31-5 in the match while hitting 19 shots on goal. 

Next, the Beavers head back to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, when they host CUNYAC opponent York College at Randall's Island - Field 10. The kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
