Throggs Neck, NY - The City College of New York women's soccer team defeated Maritime College on Thursday night, 4-1, in non-conference action. The Beavers improved to 7-5 overall with the victory.
In the win, freshman Charlotte Foberg led the Beavers, netting three goals to notch her first career hat trick. Foberg tallied the first goal of the evening in the 30th minute. The Hoboken, New Jersey native, found a nicely dished pass from freshman Deniz Zeynep Sonmez to net the goal.
In the 61st minute, a corner kick from freshman MacKenzie Moreno aided sophomore Cassidy Canberg to connect on a header inside the box to put the Beavers ahead 2-0.
Seconds later (61:40), Maritime got on the board when Brianne Etienne buried a shot from 30 yards to cut CCNY's lead to one a score game, 2-1.
Foberg answered for the Beavers, netting her second shot of the night off an assist from freshman Nicole Magretta in the 74th minute. Foberg completed her hat trick in the 78th minute, booting in a shot off a free kick assist from Magretta.
Overall, the Beavers were aggressive on the offensive end, outshooting the Privateers 25-12 while clipping 16 shots on goal to Maritime's five.
Freshman Rosario Baltazar started in goal for CCNY, making four saves.
Next, the Beavers close out the regular season with a highly anticipated matchup with the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on Saturday, Oct. 23. The teams will face off for the regular-season title at Randall's Island - Field 83 at noon.
