CCNY Men’s Soccer Defeats John Jay, 2-1; Advances to the CUNYAC Semifinals

New York, NY - The CCNY men's soccer team defeated John Jay College, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2021 CUNYAC Championship Tournament. The victory marks the first postseason victory for the Beavers since 2015.

The Bloodhounds struck first in the match, as Najim Romero found the back of the net early in the ninth minute.

Later in the period, the Beavers evened the match in the 39th minute. A corner-kick assist from freshman Andrey Goryuk aided classmate Cheik Diakite to net his fourth goal of the year, tying the contest at 1-1.

Goryuk scored the eventual decisive goal in the match in the 41st minute. Sophomore Amadou Barry and freshman Kerneil Melius were each credited with the assist on the score.

Freshman goalkeeper John Creegan earned his second victory, making saves in goal for the Beavers.

John Jay narrowly outshot CCNY in the match with an 11-8 edge, but the Beavers held a 5-3 shots on goal advantage.

Next, CCNY advances to the semifinals on Saturday, Oct. 30, against the second-seeded Baruch College Bearcats at noon at Randall's Island - Field 10
