Men’s Soccer Wins Second-Straight, Defeats York 4-2

New York, NY - The City College of New York men's soccer team earned its second straight victory at home on Saturday night, defeating York College, 4-2. The Beavers were led by senior Nicholas Karkut two-goal performance, while freshman Cheik Diakite had a pair of assists and a goal of his own in the win. The Beavers improve to 2-2 overall, and a flawless 2-0 in CUNY Athletic Conference play.

The Cardinals scored the first goal of the contest to take an early lead. York's sophomore Marvin Mondesir found the back of the net in the 14th minute of the match to take a 1-0 lead.

The Beavers answered back in the 30th minute as freshman Andrey Goryuk converted a successful penalty kick for his first goal of the season.

Karkut wasted no time in the second period, scoring his first goal of the match 30 seconds into the period to give the Beavers their first lead in the contest. Karkut netted his second goal in the 60th minute, putting the Beavers ahead 3-1. 

Nearly six minutes later (66:28), freshman Cheik Diakite scored CCNY's fourth goal of the match, tallying his second goal of the season.

York would score a goal late in the match (88:51) but, the Beavers held off any late surge to secure a 4-2 victory.

Overall, the Beavers outshot the Cardinals 28-5 in the contest. Freshman goalkeeper Roger Saquipay earned his second win in goal, making one save. Junior John Yauri and freshmen Adrian Montalvan and Abdou Diaman were each credited with an assist in the match.

CCNY will return to action on Monday, October 5, traveling to Purchase College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
