Brooklyn, NY - The CCNY men's soccer team defeated the Brooklyn College Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, 2-1, in double overtime. With the win, the Beavers remain unbeaten in CUNYAC play (3-0) and improve to 3-3 overall.
The Beavers broke through first, scoring the first goal of the afternoon in the fourth minute. Freshman Adrian Montalvan netted the goal, notching his second season score to give CCNY a 1-0 advantage.
Nearing the end of the first period, Brooklyn tied the contest with a goal of their own. In the 43rd minute, the Bulldog's Randy Urgiles found the back of the net to even the match at 1-1.
With the score even after 90 minutes, neither team could land a shot on goal in the first overtime period. With less than 40 seconds remaining in the second extra period, the Beavers drew a foul inside the box to setup a penalty kick opportunity. Senior Nicholas Karkut converted to clinch the victory.
The goal was Karkut's third game-winner of the season and fourth marker of the year.
In goal, freshman Mikhael Torres made his first career start for the Beavers. The rookie tallied five saves en-route to his collegiate win.
In all, the Beavers attempted seven shots, three on goal and held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Beavers will head back to action on Monday, Oct. 11, when they travel to take on Rutgers-Newark. Match time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
