New York, NY - In their CUNY Athletic Conference opener, the CCNY women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches against Hunter and John Jay. The setbacks drop the Beavers to 1-9 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Match One: Hunter 3, CCNY (25-11, 25-11, 25-14)
The Hawks swept the Beavers in straight sets 25-11, 25-11, and 25-14.
Freshman Natalia Abreu had a team-high seven kills and four digs to lead the Beavers. Junior Nadia Campoverde registered a team-high seven digs and two aces. Freshman Jafriesy Ovalle contributed seven digs.
Match Two: Hunter 3, CCNY (25-16, 25-13, 21-25, 25-21)
In the closer, John Jay took the first set 25-16. The Bloodhounds controlled the second frame, defeating the Beavers, 25-13. The Beavers bounced back in a tight third set to extend the match, 25-21. In the final, period John Jay closed out the game strong with a 25-21 victory.
Freshman Natalia Abreu led the Beavers with a team-high 12 kills, three digs, and a team-leading two blocks. Bianka Catral had seven kills, seven digs, two aces, and a pair of assists. Junior Nadia Campoverde finished with a team-high seven digs, four aces, and one block. Jafriesy Ovalle added seven digs of her own and dialed in a pair of blocks.
The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 13., in a non-conference match on the road against Centenary University. Match time is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center.
