Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Amir Assani Banks in Buzzer Beater; Beavers Notch First Conference Victory with Win Over Medgar Evers, 74-72

Brooklyn, NY - The CCNY men's basketball team secured their first conference victory on Wednesday night, as sophomore Amir Assani banked in a game-winning layup in the game's final seconds, lifting the Beavers to a win over Medgar Evers College, 74-72.

The Beavers improve to 5-6 overall, and 1-1 in CUNYAC play with the win.

The Beavers trailed by five points with 3:07 remaining. Back-to-back baskets from Assani trimmed the Cougars lead to one point with 2:13 left in regulation. After falling behind again by three points (72-69), sophomore guard Yassine Sakhi knocked down a three-pointer from beyond the arc, tying the game at 72-72 with under two minutes on the clock.

After two key defensive stops, the Beavers recovered the ball for their final possession. Catching the inbound pass at the key with five seconds on the clock, Assani drove down the lane to sink in the game-winner, clinching the win for CCNY.

Three players finished the evening with double-double performances for the Beavers. Assani had a solid performance for CCNY, registering his third double-double of the year. He posted 15 points and 15 rebounds, adding two assists, two steals, and a pair of blocks as well. Junior Daniel Piszczatowski had his second straight double-double outing, picking up 17 points and ten rebounds, along with three assists, three blocks, and two steals. Junior Dashaun Galloway also posted his second consecutive double-double, producing ten points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

Sakhi contributed 11 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds. Freshman Bayame Bah finished with eight points, five rebounds, and two steals, while classmate Elijah Patterson finished with ten points and three rebounds.

Next, the Beavers return to the Nat Holman Gymnasium on Friday, Jan. 14, hosting York College at 7:00 p.m.
