New York, NY – The City College of New York men's basketball team defended their home court Monday night, defeating the College of Old Westbury, 83-61, at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Beavers improve to 5-5 overall.
Junior Yassine Sakhi led the team with a season-high 28 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Senior Daniel Piszczatowski collected 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Junior Amir Assani finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.
Freshman Ricardo Dixon added eight points and four rebounds off the bench. Sophomore Luqman Ahmed chipped in a season-high eight points and two rebounds. Rookie Michael Bowman picked up four points, three rebounds, and two assists, while junior Nana Oteng had six points, and freshman Wilmer Beard added three points.
The Beaver's defense forced a season-high 23 turnovers, aiding to 28 points in transition. CCNY narrowly outrebounded the Panthers, 37-36, in the contest while outshooting Old Westbury, 47.8% to 41.8%.
Next, the Beavers return to action later this month for the WestConn Tournament in Danbury, Conn. The Beavers open the tournament against Western Connecticut State on Thursday, Dec. 29, at 3:00 p.m.
