CCNY Baseball Drops Midweek Contest at NYU

Brooklyn, NY - The City College of New York baseball team dropped a midweek New York City matchup on Wednesday evening, falling to New York University, 10-4. With the loss, the Beavers fall to 2-11 on the season.

The Violets jumped ahead in the first inning with three runs. Connor Roggero scored the first run for NYU on a wild pitch, followed by Richard Beggy's two-RBI double to put NYU up 3-0.

After a scoreless second inning, CCNY scratched a run in the third frame when Jonathan Rivera reached home on John Creegan's RBI single to right field.

The Violets would score five unanswered runs across the next three innings to extend their lead to 9-1.

The Beavers tallied their next two runs in the seventh when Rivera knocked a two-RBI double to center field, cutting into NYU's lead margin, 9-2.

NYU tallied their final run in the bottom of the seventh on Joe Cetale's RBI single.

CCNY added one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning when senior Sardar Khanbilvardi drove in Creegan on an RBI- single through the left side.

Khanbilvardi picked up a pair of hits, going 2-for-3, along with an RBI in the game. Jonathan Rivera finished with two RBIs, a hit, and a run scored, while Creegan had one hit, one run, and an RBI and Suprun tallied a hit in the contest.

Freshman Eric Romero took the loss, working 3.0 innings, recording three strikeouts, allowing three hits and three runs. Freshman Matthew Kue worked the next 2.0 frames, totaling three strikeouts of his own. 

Next, the Beavers head to Danbury, Conn., for a non-conference contest on Friday, Apr. 1, against Western Connecticut State at 3:30 p.m.
