New York, NY - The City College of New York women's soccer team is heading back to the CUNY Athletic Conference Championship Game after defeating Brooklyn College, 4-1, in the conference semifinals on Saturday.
With the victory, CCNY improved to 9-5 overall on the season. The Beavers advance to the championship match for the second straight season and make their third appearance in the last four seasons.
Sophomore
Karen Pineda got things started in the 23rd minute when she connected a cross pass from freshman
Stella Bolduc, curling a shot into the back of the net.
In the 35th minute, Pineda doubled the Beaver's lead with her second goal of the day. After dribbling through two Brooklyn defenders, Pineda drilled a shot from 15 yards, tallying her 11th goal of the season.
In the second half, junior
MacKenzie Moreno got one to go in the 53rd minute, nailing a shot from just outside the 18-yard box. Freshman
Sara Rodriguez and junior
Charlotte Foberg assisted on the play.
Senior
Sharon Garcia knocked in the Beavers' final goal of the in the 58th minute on an unassisted score.
The Bulldogs' lone goal came in the 77th minute from Angelina Vasta off an assist from Mary Khosh.
In goal, sophomore
Amelia Cataldo earned the win, allowing one goal in the contest.
In all, the Beavers outshot the Bulldogs 33-1 on the day and held a 16-1 shots-on-goal advantage.
Next, the Beavers will take on No. 2 John Jay College in the 2023 CUNY Athletic Championship Game next Saturday, Nov. 4, at Queens College at 11:00 a.m.
