New York, NY - The City College of New York women's soccer graduate
Cassidy Canberg '23 has been announced as CCNY's and CUNY Athletic Conference's nominee for the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Since 1991, The NCAA Woman of the Year program has recognized graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service, and leadership throughout their college careers.
Canberg, a member of the CCNY women's soccer program, graduated with a degree in business management and administration with a minor in biology. She was a four-year CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll honoree, in addition to being named a CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention.
On the pitch, Canberg was voted CUNYAC Player of the Year in 2021, along with earning All-ECAC recognition. This season, she was named a CUNYAC All-Star, leading the Beavers to the conference championship game.
Off the field, Canberg was a member of the Financial Literacy & Stock Market Clubs at CCNY in addition to being a part of the Economics Business and Finance Society. She was a digital marketing intern at USL Technology as part of the CUNY Building Performance Lab Internship Program and served as a sustainable designer and researcher with Kiss + Cathcart, Architects as part of the NYSERDA Clean Energy Internship Program. Canberg was also a part of the Mount Sinai Take 10 Volunteer Program.
In 2023, she was the recipient of the Professor Roberta Cassese-Cohen Memorial Award, given for academic and athletic performance. In addition, she received the Ben Wallack Memorial Award in 2022, awarded to the most outstanding female student-athlete.
The Woman of the Year Selection Committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees — 10 from each division — from the conference-level nominees. The Top 30 honorees will be announced in October.
The selection committee will then determine the top three honorees in each division from the Top 30, and the nine finalists will be announced in November. From those nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will choose the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year. The honorees will be celebrated at the Woman of the Year Award Presentation at the NCAA Convention in Phoenix in January.
