New York, NY - The City College of New York men's soccer team pulled off a thrilling upset on Wednesday afternoon, defeating #3 John Jay College in a penalty shootout after a 1–1 draw in regulation and double overtime at Randall's Island Field 70.
After a tightly contested first half, John Jay broke through in the 54th minute when Josh Clemas scored to give the Bloodhounds a 1–0 lead. The Beavers responded with relentless pressure, and in the 75th minute, senior Aliou Ndiaye buried the equalizer—his second goal of the season—to level the score at 1–1.
Neither side could find the winner through regulation or extra time, sending the match to penalty kicks.
In the shootout, freshman goalkeeper Rudy Guttierrez came up clutch with two crucial saves, while Ndiaye, Abdul Salim, Yair Roman, and sophomore Konstantinos Psomaras all converted their attempts to seal the 4–3 shootout victory for the Beavers.
With the win, the Beavers advance to the CUNYAC Championship Semifinals, where they will face the #2-seeded Baruch College Bearcats on Saturday, November 1, at 3:30 p.m. at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York.
