CCNY Men’s Soccer Upsets #2 Baruch in Penalty Kicks to Reach CUNYAC Championship

New York, NY – The City College of New York men's soccer team pulled off a thrilling upset on Wednesday afternoon, defeating #2 Baruch College in a 5–4 penalty shootout after a tense match that saw CCNY force overtime with just seconds remaining.

CCNY advanced for the second straight match on penalty kicks, forcing overtime with just nine seconds remaining. After a scoreless first half, Baruch took a 1–0 lead late in regulation. Rayan Vukovic scored his fifth goal of the season at 87:07, assisted by Ailey Dawson and Anthony Prado.

The Beavers responded in dramatic fashion. With 9 seconds left, freshman Abdul Salim sent a low shot to the far left post to tie the game 1–1 and send the match into overtime.

In the shootout, both teams converted their first four attempts. In the fifth round, Baruch, shooting first, missed, giving sophomore Konstantinos Psomaras the chance to convert and clinch the victory, sending CCNY to their first finals appearance since 2015.

In goal, freshman Milton Pingarron started and played all 110 minutes, making six saves to anchor the Beavers in the match.

The Beavers will take on #4 Lehman College in the CUNYAC Championship on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the York College Soccer Complex at 2:30 pm.
