Beavers Fall to Franklin & Marshall in Holiday Tournament Opener

Lancaster, PA - The City College of New York men's basketball team opened play at the 2025 Franklin & Marshall Holiday Tournament on Sunday afternoon, falling to the host Diplomats, 84–47.

Franklin & Marshall set the tone early, shooting efficiently from the floor and beyond the arc to build a commanding first-half lead. The Diplomats connected on 11 three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes and went into halftime ahead 52–25.

CCNY continued to compete in the second half, showing improved defensive energy and attacking the paint more consistently, but Franklin & Marshall maintained control throughout. The Diplomats outscored CCNY 32–22 after the break to secure the win.

Senior Justin Morety led the Beavers with a strong offensive performance, finishing with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting while adding five rebounds. Freshman Olabanjo Aborisade provided a spark off the bench with 11 points and five rebounds, and sophomore Chris Popotte chipped in five points in limited minutes.

As a team, CCNY finished shooting 34.8 percent from the field and was limited to just two three-pointers on the afternoon. Franklin & Marshall shot 51.8 percent overall and 50 percent from long range, with balanced scoring that featured five players in double figures.

The Beavers will look to regroup as they return to CUNYAC play, traveling to take on York College on Wednesday, January 7, at 7:00 p.m.
