Beavers Dominate at Home as CCNY Cruises Past Medgar Evers, 100–58

New York, NY — The City College of New York men's basketball team delivered a complete performance on both ends of the floor Friday night, rolling past Medgar Evers College, 100–58, in CUNYAC action at Nat Holman Gymnasium.

CCNY set the tone early, racing out to a commanding 54–28 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and relentless defensive pressure. The Beavers shot a scorching 67.7 percent from the field in the first half and never allowed Medgar Evers to gain any momentum, leading wire-to-wire.

Senior Justin Morety paced the Beavers with an all-around effort, finishing with 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, 10 rebounds, four assists, and four steals in just 26 minutes of action. Morety controlled the game on both ends, anchoring CCNY's dominance in the paint and transition.

CCNY's balance was on full display, as six players scored in double figures. Freshman Komron Ergashev knocked down four three-pointers off the bench to score 14 points, while sophomore David Leye added 13 points and six rebounds. Senior Michael Bowman and sophomore Chris Popotte each chipped in 12 points, with Bowman also dishing out seven assists. Freshman Olabanjo Aborisade rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points, six rebounds, and three blocks.

The Beavers finished the night shooting 59.2 percent from the field, outrebounded Medgar Evers 50–40, and forced 17 turnovers, converting them into 29 points. CCNY also dominated inside, outscoring the Cougars 54–32 in the paint and building a lead that ballooned to as many as 44 points in the second half.

Medgar Evers was led by Nicholas Bocharov and Joash Beaton, who scored 11 points apiece, but the Cougars struggled offensively throughout, shooting 32.0 percent from the field and going scoreless from three-point range in the second half.

With the win, CCNY improves to 3–12 overall and 3–3 in CUNYAC play.

The Beavers return to action next on Tuesday, January 20, traveling to take on Connecticut College.
