Justin Morety Hits 1,000 Career Points; CCNY Falls 70–62 to York

JAMAICA, NY — The City College of New York men's basketball team battled hard but came up just short against York College in CUNY Athletic Conference play Tuesday night, falling 70–62.

Senior Justin Morety reached a major milestone on the night, tallying his 1,000th career point, combining his scoring from Erie Community College and Western Connecticut State with his time at CCNY. Morety finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in 40 minutes, leading the Beavers on both ends of the floor.

Sophomore Chris Popotte posted a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while senior Michael Bowman added 10 points. Senior Kayson Dinkins contributed six, and junior Abdias Carcamo chipped in three points and three steals.

CCNY struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 13.8% (4-of-29), but grabbed 53 rebounds and forced 13 turnovers, keeping the game close until the final minutes.

York was paced by Christopher Smith, who scored 21 points, and Jonte Wallace, who added 14 points and eight rebounds. The Bulldogs also outscored CCNY at the free-throw line in the second half, converting 16-of-21 attempts.

The Beavers will look to bounce back as they host Lehman College on Friday, January 9, at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
