Bronx, NY — The City College of New York baseball team improved to 12–15 overall and 5–2 in CUNYAC play with a 4–3 win over John Jay on Tuesday evening.
John Jay opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI triple by Sebastian Sanchez to take a 1–0 lead. CCNY responded in the fifth inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues and a wild pitch to plate two unearned runs and move ahead 2–1.
The Beavers added to their lead in the sixth inning when Gerard Molinaro scored on an error, extending the advantage to 3–1. John Jay answered in the bottom of the seventh, drawing back-to-back bases-loaded walks to tie the game at 3–3.
CCNY regained the lead in the eighth inning as Rich Cirigliano delivered an RBI double to score Erik Rank, giving the Beavers a 4–3 edge.
Samuel Puttock earned the win in relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Tristan Bausenwein started on the mound for CCNY, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing three runs while striking out five.
At the plate, Cirigliano led the way with a double and an RBI. Jake Brenner, Tyler Persampire, and Jason Roser each recorded a hit for CCNY.
The Beavers were out-hit 5–4 but took advantage of five walks and two John Jay errors to secure the victory.
CCNY will continue conference play in its next scheduled matchup.
