NEW YORK, N.Y. — The City College of New York women's volleyball team rallied after dropping the opening set to defeat the University of Mount Saint Vincent, 3-1, on Thursday evening at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
The victory marks CCNY's second consecutive win, improving to 2-3 overall.
The Beavers fell behind early after Mount Saint Vincent claimed the opening set, 25-19. CCNY responded with three consecutive set victories, taking the second set, 25-21, before closing out the match with wins of 25-19 and 25-22.
CCNY controlled the offensive attack throughout the final three sets, finishing the night with 45 kills compared to 30 for the Dolphins. The Beavers also held advantages in aces, 12-8, assists, 42-25, and digs, 68-59.
Rachael Reyes led the Beavers offensively with a match-high 14 kills while adding 18 digs. Ivanna Zamora Sanchez contributed 12 kills and a block, while Lesly Almonte added eight kills.
Defensively, Rosalynda Russo turned in another strong performance with 18 digs and three service aces. Danuzia Caixeta Palmer and Yamilci Izquierdo each recorded 19 assists, with Caixeta Palmer also adding eight digs.
Mount Saint Vincent took control early in the opening set, hitting .188 while CCNY committed 11 attack errors. The Beavers regrouped in the second set, producing 14 kills and hitting .167 to even the match at one set apiece.
CCNY continued its momentum in the third set, holding Mount Saint Vincent to a -.067 hitting percentage while earning a 25-19 victory. The Beavers then battled through a tight fourth set, overcoming 13 attack errors to secure the 25-22 win and complete the comeback.
