NEW YORK, N.Y. — The City College of New York women's volleyball team opened its 2026 CUNYAC schedule Tuesday night, falling to Hunter College, 3-1, at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
CCNY (4-7, 0-1 CUNYAC) came out strong, taking the opening set, 25-22, in front of 152 fans. Hunter (2-3, 1-0 CUNYAC) responded by taking the second set by the same score before claiming the third set, 25-10, and closing out the match with a 25-21 fourth-set victory.
The Beavers finished the night with 38 kills, eight service aces and seven total blocks. Hunter recorded 59 kills and 83 digs.
Freshman Holly Guzman led CCNY offensively with nine kills, while Senior Rosalynda Russo and Rachael Reyes each added seven kills. Reyes also recorded two service aces, while junior Ivanna Zamora Sanchez led the Beavers with three aces.
At the net, junior Lesly Almonte recorded a team-high four blocks. Zamora Sanchez and sophomore Danuzia Caixeta Palmer each added two blocks.
Caixeta Palmer paced the CCNY offense with 18 assists, followed by Yamilci Izquierdo with 14 and Emery Ramirez-Espinosa with four. Ramirez-Espinosa also led the Beavers defensively with 16 digs, while Russo added 13 and Patricia Brooks recorded 11.
Hunter was led by Kassidy Cruz Nuesi with 13 kills, while Michelle Liu added 11 and Varvara Kudinova contributed 10. Sofia Marolla recorded 46 assists and 18 digs for the Hawks, while Maya Cosmo led all players with 25 digs.
CCNY returns to action on Thursday, hosting Maritime College at 7:00pm
