NEW YORK, N.Y. — The City College of New York men's soccer team battled St. Joseph's University Brooklyn to a 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island Field.
The Beavers carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime and extended their lead early in the second half, but St. Joseph's scored twice in the final 15 minutes to earn a share of the points.
CCNY opened the scoring in the 34th minute when David Caceres found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Yanis Hamdi Pacha was credited with the assist, giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead at the break.
CCNY doubled its advantage in the 61st minute when Konstantinos Psomaras scored his second goal of the season.
St. Joseph's answered in the 76th minute when Alexander Kudrick converted following a block by CCNY goalkeeper Axel Vazquez, cutting the Beavers' lead to 2-1.
The Bears completed the comeback in the 87th minute, with Francisco Garcia scoring on a direct free kick to level the match at 2-2.
Vazquez finished with five saves in goal for CCNY, helping the Beavers withstand 19 shots from St. Joseph's. CCNY recorded seven shots, including four on target, while St. Joseph's finished with seven shots on goal.
Caceres led the Beavers with two shots on target and one goal, while Psomaras recorded two shots and one goal. Alexis Penaranda added two shots, including one on target.
With the draw, CCNY moves to 1-0-2 on the season.
