Steve Macias joined the City College of New York as the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities in the Fall of 2011 and became the head baseball coach prior to the 2012 season.

Tabbed to rebuild the Beavers into a contender in the City University of New York Athletic Conference, six players have earned City University of New York Athletic Conference all-star honors in his two seasons.

He went 6-29 in his first season (2012) with two sluggers concluding the season with a batting average over .300. Catcher Mike Smith was named a first team CUNYAC all-star after hitting .289 with 10 doubles and 18 RBI while right-hander Andrew Mulvey threw five complete games, earning second team all-CUNYAC honors, joining Chris Lounsbury on the second team after Lounsbury finished the season leading the club in hits (40), runs (24) and second on the club in batting average (.315).

His sophomore campaign featured three CUNYAC second team all-stars as Smith, Eric Quatrone and Emmanuel Nwokelo were named to the squad. Smith led the club in batting average, home runs, RBI and doubles while Nwokelo shined as a freshman. Quatrone was a highlight reel in center field and finished his lone season as a Beaver with two assists and one trick play to tag a baserunner out at second base.

In his third season at the helm of the program, Macias' efforts both on and off the field paid off as the Beavers posted an outstanding nine-and-a-half game improvement over the previous season. Third baseman Gabriel Pena was voted CUNYAC player of the year while his brother, freshman second baseman Adrian Pena, earned conference rookie of the year honors. Right-handed pitcher Jose Aquino earned first team all-star honors while Smith capped off his career with a second-team all-star accolade.

Prior to accepting the position at City College, Macias served as the Director of Athletics and the head baseball coach at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. There, he directed and supervised the administration of the men’s and women’s athletic programs including all administrative, operational, and business functions of the Department of Athletics. As the college’s baseball coach, Macias’ best year at the helm came in 2008 when he led the Dolphins to a 23-17 record and to the final game of the Skyline Conference Tournament. That year, his team also appeared in the ECAC Tournament as well.

In addition, the Yonkers native served as the Acting Director of Athletics / Head Baseball Coach during the summer of 2008, and the Assistant AD / Baseball Coach from August of the 2006 though May of 2008. From July 2004 through August of 2006, he served as the Director of Athletics and as a Physical Education Teacher at Haldane Central School District.

From 1994-1996, Macias began his head coaching career at the helm of the baseball program at Lehman College and as an academic counselor. In 1995, he not only led the Lightning to a CUNYAC Championship, but he received the Louisville Slugger Award for excellence in coaching. The 1995 season concluded with the Yonkers native earning CUNYAC Coach of the Year honors and followed up the historic campaign guiding Lehman to the ECAC New York/New Jersey Championship.

Macias received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from SUNY Cortlandt and his Master's in Physical Education in 1996 from Lehman College. In 2007, he earned a Master's degree in Leadership and Educational Change from the Bank Street College of Education.
