The City College of New York women's volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-10, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21) to Farmingdale State on Tuesday night at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
The Rams (11-9) went on a 4-0 run to start the first set. After CCNY (5-25) took one point, Farmingdale State went on a 9-0 run to have a 13-1 lead. City could not overcome that advantage and the Rams took the first set 25-10.
City came out strong in the second set as the points went back-and-forth. The score was tied 5-5 and then CCNY went on a 5-0 run. The Beavers had a 23-12 lead, but the Rams would not go quietly as they went on a 6-0 to cut the lead 23-18. City came up with a block by
Camila Diaz for the 25-20 second set victory.
The third set started just like the second set did as the points went back-and-forth. Farmingdale State went on a 6-0 run to take a 19-10 lead that the Beavers tried to chip at. The Rams took the third set 25-17.
CCNY took a big 12-8 lead in the fourth set behind the serving of
Irishvarsha Iyyadurai. The Beavers continued to hold the advantage up 18-13 in the fourth set. However, the Rams tied the score 19-19. The next final points were intesnse as the two squads battled for a victory. Farmingdale State took the 22-21 lead that gave them the advantage to win the final set and match 25-21.
Diaz led the Beavers with five kills, as
Angela Ubanwa,
Pui-Yan Yu and Iyyadurai all added three.
Magd Zamzam dished out 10 assists. Veralucia Quispe tallied 10 digs along with Iyyadurai adding nine. Yu put up three solo blocks, along with Diaz's two blocks.
The Beavers will face conference opponent Baruch on Thursday in Nat Holman Gymnasium. Match is set for 7 p.m.
