The City College of New York women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-12) to conference opponent Baruch Thursday evening at Nat Holman Gymnasium in New York, New York.
The Beavers began the first set looking to be the first conference opponent to take down Baruch. The Bearcats took a 6-2 advantage, but City struck back and tied it 7-7. Baruch kept attacking, while City kept putting up stops. The Bearcats took a 14-22 advantage, but CCNY took a 3-0 run to cut their lead 17-22. However, Baruch took the next three points to take the first set 25-17.
In the second set, Baruch went up 4-0 to start. City took the next three points, but Baruch put up a dominating fight over the Beavers. CCNY continued to chip away at the Bearcats lead but was unable to gain an advantage. Baruch took the second set 25-17.
The third set started off with a lot of back-and-forth action as the teams were tied 4-4. CCNY was able to keep it close until the Bearcats went on a 6-0 run to take a 8-18 lead. The Beavers were unable to stop the conference foe as they took the third set and match 25-12.
Angela Ubanwa led the Beavers with four kills, while
Magd Zamzam led the team with nine assists. Veralucia Quispe tallied 10 digs, while
Irishvarsha Iyyadurai added nine and Ubanwa notched eight.
Pui-Yan Yu put up three solo blocks, and one block assist in the loss. The team tallied five blocks.
The team will travel to the College at Old Westbury on Tuesday, October 27 at 6 p.m.
