Men's Basketball Tops Farmingdale State in Season Opener

The City College of New York men's basketball team topped Farmingdale State 68-57 in their season opener on Tuesday evening in Nat Holman Gymnasium.

As it was the season opener for both teams, both fought hard for the initial lead to a new season. There was a lot of back-and-forth action as the foes fought for baskets. It was turnovers that eventually gave CCNY the ultimate lead. The Rams tried to make a comeback when they were down 13-10, but the Beavers would not let that happen. City went on a 6-0 run to take a 19-10 lead.

The Beavers continued their dominance throughout the first half as they went on a 8-1 run to take a 27-11 lead. City went into the locker room holding a 30-20 lead over Farmingdale State.

The Rams made a run to start the second half to try to take the lead, but the 10-point lead CCNY had over them was hard to overcome. The Beavers kept putting up points to keep Farmingdale State at bay. At the seven minute mark, the Rams had cut the lead to eight with CCNY leading 48-40, but they couldn't catch up. City took the game 68-57.

Khalil Hamer notched his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. David Solano added 17 points of his own for the Beavers. City tallied seven blocks and 11 steals in the victory, while causing the Rams to make 23 turnovers.

City will travel to Allentown, Pennsylvania for the Muhlenberg Tournament on Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21.
