Beavers Fall In Close Non-Conference Matchup

The City College of New York men's basketball team fell 65-60 in a non-conference match-up against St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) on Tuesday afternoon in Nat Holman Gymnasium.

To start the game, City (5-4) and SJC (Brooklyn) (6-4) went back-and-forth with points. Neither team could take a clear lead as they went up and down the court. City took the lead. CCNY took the lead off a layup from Robbie Dionisio at the 9:18 mark. The Beavers continued to add to that lead, while the Bears searched for an opportunity to regain the lead.

During the first half, the score was tied six times, and the lead changed three times. It was an intense match up between the non-conference foes. City shot .375 from the field, while the Bears shot .281 during the first half. City held onto their 29-24 lead going into the locker room at the half.

The Bears came into the second half with hunger for victory. City was able to maintain their lead for most of the second half. St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) called a timeout at the 11:10 mark and that is where the tables turned. The Bears came out of the timeout with two steals that led to them taking their lead. City tried to comeback and regain the lead they had held for most of the game, but were unable to stop the Bears.

St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) outscored CCNY 41-31 in the second half. City shot an impressive .414 from the field, but it could not stop the Bears .500 field goal percentage. CCNY fell 65-60.

Will Rhodes notched his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Dionisio recorded 10 points of his own for the Beavers.

The Beavers will face Manhattanville Wednesday, December 30 in Nat Holman Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
