Women's Volleyball Fall In Season Opener

The City College of New York women's volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 17-25, 15-25) against Yeshiva Tuesday in the Nat Holman Gymnasium in New York, New York. The Beavers (0-1) took the first set, while the Maccabees (1-0) ran away with the following three sets to take the match.

At a first glance, the Beavers looked strong and together against Yeshiva in the first set. Camila Franco-Diaz took control with her serve and along with the team went on a 5-0 run to take the 13-8 lead. City took the first set 25-15.

Yeshiva came out strong in the second in the following three sets to take a win in the first match of the season. Gavriela Colton led Yeshiva with 10 kills, while the team recorded 15 service aces.

Angela Ubanwa led the Beavers with 11 kills, while Cassidy Iannariello dished out 23 assists. The team combined for 18 service aces and 31 digs.

The team will travel to the Haverford/Swarthmore Tournament on Saturday for a two-day tournament. On Saturday, CCNY will face Haverford at 11 a.m. and then Salisbury at 5 p.m at Haverford College in Haverford, Pennsylvania. On Sunday, City will take on SUNY New Paltz at 12 p.m. followed by Stevenson at 4 p.m at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.
