The City College of New York women's volleyball team fell in three sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-22) to the College of Staten Island on Thursday in Staten Island, New York.
In the first set, the Beavers (2-9, 1-3 CUNYAC) went up 5-9 over CSI (3-4, 1-3 CUNYAC) However, the Dolphins went on a 5-0 run to take a 10-9 lead. The set was a back-and-forth battle between the conference foes. College of Staten Island went up 17-14 and from that point, CCNY could not catch up. CSI took the first st 25-19.
The Dolphins started the second set with a 5-0 run that City could not catch up the rest of the set. The Beavers tried to stay in it, by bringing it within five when the score was 20-15. However, CSI continued to dominate the set and won 25-18.
The third set started off with a lot of back-and-forth action between the squads. CCNY took the lead behind the serves from
Irishvarsha Iyyadurai. City continued to stay ahead of the Dolphins until they tied it 22-22. From that point on CSI went on a 3-0 run to win the set and match 25-22.
Angela Ubanwa led the Beavers with 11 kills, while
Aida Cekic added six.
Magd Zamzam dished out 14 assists, while
Veralucia Quispe had 20 digs. The team finished with a .135 attack percentage.
The team heads to Madison, New Jersey Saturday, September 19 for the Devil's Tri-match. They will face Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham first and then the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
