Men's Basketball Defeated By Buzzer Beater

City College of New York men's basketball was defeated 77-75 by a buzzer beater from Connecticut College on Tuesday evening.

While Connecticut College (10-3) took the first bucket of the game, City (9-4) responded with a 7-0 run to take a 7-2 lead. The Beavers remained in control for the first half. City took a 16-point lead with the score 29-13. The Camels chipped away at the Beavers lead and by halftime they cut the score to 31-29.

Mark Richards led the Beavers with nine points and six rebounds at the half. City shot .353 from the field, while Connecticut College shot .333.

City remained in control to start the second half. The Camels took their second lead of the game at the 16:08 mark with a score of 40-37. Both teams continued to trade points and run up the score. Connecticut College took the lead for a portion of the second half, until the Beavers were able to regain their lead with a little over 10 minutes left in the game.

With 17 seconds on the clock, City led 75-73. Then the Camels were fouled and tied the game up 75-75. With possession of the ball and 6.4 seconds left, City looked to take the lead and not head into over time. The inbound pass was stolen and Tyler Rowe, of Connecticut College, got the shot off at the buzzer to give the Camels the win.

Richards led the team with 24 points. Both Khalil Hamer and Robbie Dionisio tallied nine rebounds and 16 points. Hamer dished out seven assists in the loss.

CCNY continues their home stand as they face CUNYAC opponent Baruch College on Friday, January 15.
