Men's Basketball Suffers First Road Loss

City College of New York men's basketball team suffered their first road loss of the season to the hands of Brooklyn College. The Beavers fell 87-78 at Brooklyn on Wednesday night. 

Brooklyn (14-3, 7-2 CUNYAC) started the game off with the first four points, but the Beavers (9-8, 4-5 CUNYAC) was quick to catch up. The two teams battled back-and-forth for the lead. The Bulldogs went on a big 11-0 run to take a 23-17 lead with 12:31 left in the first half. However, City responded and trailed by only one with just over 10 minutes left. Brooklyn maintained the lead and went into the locker room up 43-42. 

The lead changed six times, and the score was tied three times during the first half. 

To start off the second half, both teams went back-and-forth looking to take a big lead hoping to pick up a victory. The Beavers took a big 66-57 lead with 12:11 left in the game, but the Bulldogs quickly responded to cut the lead.

While City continued to maintain the lead, the Bulldogs continued to chip away, until they finally regained the lead back with under five minutes left in the game. The Bulldogs held the Beavers scoreless for the final seven minutes of the game as they went on a 15-0 run to take the win 87-78. 

Khalil Hamer was an assist away from a triple-double as he scored 20 points and recorded a career-high 11 rebounds. Four other student-athletes scored in double-digits in the Beaver loss; Robbie Dionisio (16), Mark Richards (12), David Solano (11) and Ram Chada (10). 

The Beavers tied their season-low 36 rebounds and only grabbed three offensive boards. Brooklyn's five turnovers is the lowest turnovers by an opponent this season. City finished the game shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 68.8 percent from the charity stripe.

City looks to get back on track against York College on Friday, January 22 at 7 p.m. The game will take place at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
