Men's Basketball Racks Up Victory Over Hunter

The City College of New York men's basketball team defeated Hunter College 84-73 on Wednesday night at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, New York. 

CCNY (11-8, 6-5 CUNYAC) started the game off on a quick 6-0 run. Hunter (2-18, 2-9 CUNYAC) put up a basket, and then the Beavers took a big 12-2 lead early in the first half. The Hawks chipped away at the lead and cut it to just six points, but CCNY wanted a win. City took control and took a 19-point lead going into halftime. With the score 43-24, the Beavers hoed their 7-3 record when leading at the half would not fail them.

The Beavers shot an impressive .545 percent from the field and .667 percent from behind the arc in the first half. They held the Hawks to a .345 field goal percentage along with a .000 three-point field goal percentage. 

Hunter came out on a 4-0 run to start the second half, but City was right behind them holding onto their lead. While points went back-and-forth during most of the second half, CCNY remained strong and held onto their lead. The Hawks took a big 7-0 run to cut their deficit 78-70 with just under two minutes to play. The Beavers stayed in control and hit their free throws at down the stretch to hold on and take the game 84-73.

Khalil Hamer led the Beavers with 22 points. Both David Solano and Blake Borysewicz added 14 a piece and Mark Richards recorded 13. Borysewicz's 14 points stands as his career-high points in a game. Solano also tallied three steals which is a career-high. 

On the game, City shot .534 from the field, .500 from behind the arc and .700 from the charity stripe. They held Hunter to 
.438 from the field, .333 from three-point range and .474 from the free-throw line.

City continues their road match-ups against CUNYAC opponents when they face Lehman on Saturday, January 30. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
