New York, NY - The City College women's soccer team finds itself on the bubble of reaching the CUNYAC playoffs with just four games left in the regular season. The team has been out of the playoffs for the past two seasons. The Beavers currently sit 2-3 in the conference and 6-6 overall, which puts them fourth overall. Only four teams reach the CUNYAC tournament.
Over the last five games for the Beavers, they have won four and and are on a three game winning streak, which is one of the main reasons CCNY still finds itself in the playoff hunt.
The team did help their cause by defeating Medgar Evers College on Wednesday (14-0) to better their in-conference record. That victory gives the Lavender and Black a one-victory lead over John Jay (1-3 CUNYAC) heading into its final conference game against York College on Saturday, Oct. 22.
The team heads into Saturday's game in good shape. Senior Marissa Olsen is coming off Wednesday's game against Medgar Evers were she set a new school record for goal scored in a single game. Olsen would score eight goals in the match. Olsen also leads the conference in shots(40) points(33) and goals(16).
The Beavers also have freshmen Tatiana Zuluaga, who is third in shots in the conference with 36. Rookie Melany Caceres is seventh in the conference in points with 16 and is sixth in goals with seven.
If the team can earn a win against York College, they'll secure their place as the fourth seed in the postseason. The game against York will be on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11:00am in Brooklyn, NY at Aviator Sports Complex.
