Men's Basketball Holds Off John Jay

The City College of New York men's basketball team defeated John Jay 82-71 on Friday evening. The men improve to 13-11 overall and 7-8 in CUNYAC play.

Both teams started the game off strong and quickly exchanged points back-and-forth. City then took control and went on an 8-0 run to take a 20-10 lead. CCNY would continue to add to their lead and keep the Bloodhounds at bay. John Jay continued to chip away at the lead, but the Beavers held on and went into the locker room with a 42-27 lead.

David Solano led the Beavers with 14 points at the half, where he shot four-for-four from behind the arc. Che McCoy added 10 points for the Beavers in the first half. City shot .484 from the field and .538 from behind the arc in the first half, while John Jay was .310 from the field and .143 from three-point range.

The Bloodhounds came into the second half strong, but the Beavers were prepared to put up a fight. City remained in control and held a 52-36 lead early in the second half. The next couple of minutes was a back-and-forth exchange of points, but then the Bloodhounds came out to play. It wouldn't be for long though since the Beavers continued to add to their lead and took a 72-50 lead with just under six minutes remaining. John Jay then went on a 21-10 run in the final minutes but that was not enough and CCNY picked up their seventh conference victory.

Solano led the Beavers with 20 points, while Khalil Hamer and Mark Richards added 15 and 14, respectively. Hamer picked up a double-double with his 15 points and 10 rebounds. McCoy and Ram Chada recorded 10 points a piece. City shot .492 from the field for the game and .556 from three-point range.

City will travel to play their final game of the regular season on Tuesday February 16. The match-up is against conference opponent Medgar Evers. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
