Baseball Falls In Doubleheader at Centenary

The City College of New York baseball team fell in both games of a doubleheader against Centenary College (New Jersey) on Saturday afternoon. The Cyclones pulled off a three-game sweep of the Beavers. In the first game, City fell 4-0 and then finished the series with a 9-0 loss.

Game One
The Beavers started the game off getting runners in scoring position. After a catcher's interference, Anthony Cacchione reached base safely. Adrian Pena reached on a fielder's error, which then advanced Cacchione to third. Pena was caught stealing and then Michael Siklas was walked. Both Cacchione and Siklas would be left on base for City.

Centenary started the bottom of the first off with a pair of runs. The Cyclones would take a 2-0 lead after scoring two runs off of three hits. The Cyclones would add one more in the second and finally another run in the fifth for a 4-0 lead.

CCNY was held hit-less until the sixth inning. Pena stepped up to the plate and singled up the middle for the Beavers first hit of the game. It wouldn't be until the final inning that the Beavers had their next hit. Sadar Khanbilvardi doubled down the left field line, but City could not get him across.

The Cyclones took the first game of the doubleheader 4-0.

Cal Romano started on the mound for the Beavers. In his 5.2 innings pitched, Romano struck out three, walked three and gave up four runs. Joseph DeCarlo would come in relief for the final 0.1 inning and helped end the game giving up no runs or hits.

Game Two
After a 1-2-3 inning for City on offense, the Cyclones started off game two with a pair of runs. City trailed 2-0 early in the game. After another three up, three down inning for the Beavers, Centenary came up with a big second inning.

The Cyclones scored five runs off of two hits and quickly took a 7-0 lead.

City could not get the bats going as the Cyclones continued to retire CCNY in order. It would be Sadar Khanbilvardi that had the sole hit for the Beavers in the sixth inning. Centenary added a pair of runs to their lead in the bottom of the sixth.

CCNY fell in the series finale to Centenary 9-0.

Anthony Sautter pitched 1.1 innings and gave up seven runs to the Cyclones. Joseph DeCarlo who finished the game with his 4.2 innings pitched struck out six Cyclones. He gave up two runs to his 18 batters faced.
