The City College of New York defeated St. Joseph's (Long Island) 8-1 on Thursday evening. City improved to 2-3 on the season, while St. Joseph's (Long Island) fell 0-2.
City started off the match quickly by taking the first two points from doubles. On court one
Max Bernstein &
Andrew Chen took an 8-4 victory. CCNY took the point on court three because St. Joseph's (Long Island) did not have enough players to play doubles. On court two, it was a tough competition, but the Golden Eagles took the point after a 9-7 victory over
Rubin Lehman and
Reginald Duvalsaint. CCNY led 2-1 going into singles play.
As was with doubles,
Rubin Lehman took the first point for singles since the Golden Eagles did not have enough players. City did not lose a singles match against St. Joseph's (Long Island), but the Golden Eagles put up a battle. Duvalsaint picked up his first singles victory in the number three position 6-0, 6-1.
Max Bernstein, in the number one spot, defeated SJC (LI) 6-1, 6-6 (7-5).
It was a hard fought battle on court two as
Andrew Bregman was able to hold off Peter Rasmussen 7-5, 5-7, 10-5.
Austin Thai, after falling in the first set 4-6, came back strong and won 7-5, 10-2.
Alejandro Varela took the first set 6-3, and then after falling 4-6 was able to get the third set 6-1 and seal the Beavers victory. City defeated St. Joseph's (Long Island) 8-1.
City will travel to Albertus Magnus on Saturday, March 26 for a non-conference matchup. Match is set for 1 p.m.
