Urbach Records 100 Career Strikeouts; Pena Records 100th Career Hit as Baseball Takes Two from SUNY Poly

The City College of New York baseball team won both games against SUNY Poly. In the first game Sacha Urbach recorded a complete game shutout with a 7-0 victory and recorded his 100th career strikeout, while Adrian Pena also recorded his 100th career hit. In the second game, City took the victory 6-1.

Game One
Sacha Urbach started on the mound for the Beavers. The ace would throw the first shutout this season for City, as well as pitching a complete game.

It wasn't all Urbach as the offense was able to give him run support, starting in the first inning.  Matt Sola-Baker got himself on base after getting hit by a pitch and then stole second to get himself into scoring position.  Adrian Pena then recorded his 100th career hit and scored Sola-Baker on the play. That would not be all for the Beavers as they continued to fight. Rob Mandich reached on an error that would end up scoring on that error. City took a 2-0 lead in the first.

The second inning would be no different for City on offense. Elmy Antonio led off the inning and singled through the left side. Following him would be Uche Nwokelo who would bring Antonio in with a double to right center. Eric Giglio would then get on off of a fielding error by the first baseman. Cacchione would advance Giglio to third on a fly out. Giglio would finally score when Sola-Baker singled to right field. CCNY lead 4-0 after two.

Urbach battled through the innings recording out after out on the Wildcats. City remained in control.

In the fifth inning, City recorded three more runs. It all started with a walk by Sola-Baker. Then Siklas and Pena both recorded a hit, while Pena brought Sola-Baker in for the first run of the inning. Mandich then followed with a huge double to right center that brought both Siklas and Pena around the bases. That would be all City would get across but CCNY led 7-0.

Urbach and the Beaver defense remained in control and would not give up any runs to SUNY Poly.

In his seven innings pitched, Urbach recorded three strikeouts and only let up four hits. City won the game 7-0.

Game Two
City started it off again in the bottom of the first inning. Cacchione led the way with a base hit and would advance to second on a wild pitch. Sola-Baker recorded a base hit and Pena walked to load the bases for Antonio. Antonio would single to center field to bring in both Cacchione and Sola-Baker for a quick 2-0 CCNY lead.

Cal Romano would be the Beavers starting pitcher. In the first inning, Romano saw just three batters as the City defense remained in control. In the second he gave up two hits, but no one would get across and City remained on top 2-0.

Neither team would get anything across in the innings to follow, but Romano would sit the Wildcats in order in the third and fourth inning as he remained in control on the mound.

City took another swing at things in the fifth inning. Sola-Baker started it off getting to base on a fielding error. Both Pena and Mandich would be walked to load the bases for Antonio. With a big single through the left side, Antonio brought in Sola-Baker. Nwokelo would follow that up with a single also through the left side to bring in Pena for a 4-0 lead. Eric Giglio was then walked to bring in another run. Brendan Murphy then followed that up by bringing in Antonio on a sacrifice fly. City led 6-0 after the fifth inning.

SUNY Poly finally got on the board in the sixth inning. The Wildcats recorded one run off of one hit. City still remained in the lead 6-1.

Romano picked up his first collegiate win while also pitching his first complete game for the Beavers.

City will travel to face NYU on April 1 and 2. On the April 1, first pitch is set for 4 p.m. The Beavers will then play a doubleheader on April 2 with the first game starting at 12 p.m.
